SILVERGREENS

AB Design Studio, in collaboration with JM Holliday & Associates, partnered with the client to reimagine Silvergreens’ new downtown Santa Barbara location, reflecting their commitment to fresh, health-conscious food served quickly. The design team’s challenge was to create a vibrant, modern space that embodies the brand’s core values of freshness, transparency, and smart choices, all while elevating the customer experience and reinforcing the restaurant’s identity.

The project began with an empty commercial shell featuring soaring ceilings and multiple floor levels. This unique architectural canvas allowed the team to craft a dynamic floor plan that maximizes flow and functionality. Dropped ceiling panels of varying heights were introduced to conceal lighting and mechanical systems while creating visual interest and guiding guests naturally from the entrance toward the ordering counter. The tiered flooring provided opportunities for distinct seating zones, offering guests a variety of dining experiences—from intimate corners to communal spaces. Outdoor patios were designed to embrace Santa Barbara’s coastal charm, providing ample seating in a sun-soaked environment that encourages relaxation and connection with nature.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by two curved, low walls accented with lush grassy plants. These elements subtly define the space while directing visitors toward the ordering area. Clean, modern materials such as natural wood, polished concrete, and sustainable finishes were carefully selected to align with Silvergreens’ dedication to simplicity and environmental responsibility. Every design decision reflects the brand’s mission of promoting healthy living through thoughtful choices.

Silvergreens aspired to become Santa Barbara’s first LEED Certified restaurant, setting a precedent for sustainability in the local dining scene. The design prioritizes energy efficiency, water conservation, and eco-friendly materials, reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to environmental stewardship. This holistic approach ensures that the space not only serves delicious, health-conscious food but also stands as a model for responsible design and community engagement.
