MID CENTURY MODERN

MID-CENTURY MODERN

Built-in 1960 by locally acclaimed architect Noel D Cooke AIA, the Mid-Century Modern Residence is a nod to the experimental architecture famously known as the Case Study Houses. A 2006 remodel and addition honored the structure’s heritage while sensitively updating interiors and finishes.
We approached this project with modernist thinking, “less is more.” A considerable amount of program was added to the house by reconfiguring the lower level while maintaining the original footprint. A new staircase was added to connect the entry-level to the lower level.

The introduction of board-formed concrete, dry- stacked stone, clear wood finishes, and fine wood joinery help maintain a high level of material integrity, modernizing the palette while celebrating the original spirit of the home’s bold styling.
